Our Sport's Races

Extreme triathlons are full and half distance triathlons over demanding terrains in spectacular locations. It's back to basics triathlon. These are adventures for you, your family, your friends and several with options for solo athletes. These races have the power to change you once you commit. An experience that will stay with you for life. They are not for the faint hearted or under prepared, but they are definitely achievable.

We currently list 85 race distances at 56 events in 32 countries or states, with another 9 races in the pipeline.

Our Team, Our Community

Run independently and non-commercially by extreme triathletes for triathletes, all race organisers and the extended Global Extreme Triathlon community.

We run this sports group with the greatest of respect for Norseman (the sports main inspiration), the XTRI World Tour races, the Extreme Triathlon Series and all independent extreme triathlon style events around the world.

We are a volunteer team of eighteen founders, custodians, advisors and helpers with over 150 races experience between us plus race organisation experience. We do this solely for the love of the sport. We own and manage this website. We moderate and grow our Facebook community. We maintain the standards that define these races and help develop new and existing races. We also provide guides for aspiring athletes and their supporters, and share regular race communications and advice.

This sport is not just about the athletes, it is about our supporters, the communities, the organisers, their crews and volunteers, the coaches, the photo and videographers and all those who contribute to making these races magical.

Our Overall Mission

Our absolute mission is to grow the extreme triathlon sport and it's community, create great race experiences, keep the sport true to its origins, help races launch and thrive, and also provide identity and unity across this incredible sport. Always fun, always fair, always bold, never commercial.

Our Goals

  1. Create a community for Extreme Triathlon to share advice and stories, and develop friendships with like minded people.
  2. Be a hub for listing races globally to give athletes the opportunity for adventures worldwide and also help support race organisers with marketing by doing so, whilst also providing race onboarding and development advice.
  3. Be impartial but passionate about all Extreme Triathlon races, i.e. the XTRI World Tour, the Extreme Triathlon Series and all independents.
  4. Bring in and support new athletes in their journeys, but maintain the 'family feel' and high quality of engagement.
  5. Give Support and Crews a community also, as they make Extreme Triathlon races possible and magical.
  6. Stay true to the principles of Hårek Stranheim's original vision, and now made their own by all similarly extreme triathlon races. Keeping it True, Basic, Unique. The toughest triathlons, in the most spectacular locations, within nature, embracing the communities, in small intimate events, surrounded by friends & family.
